In a viral TikTok video that has been viewed more than 107,300 times, user Lisa & Hank (@handsomehandandmama) explained what happened.

“Hilton Hawaii did not disclose this when we booked,” reads text overlaid on the clip.

What she discovered when she arrived was shocking.

Why is this Hilton guest unhappy?

The woman issued an important PSA to anyone planning to stay at the hotel. She alleged that there was an ongoing workers’ strike that had disrupted the hotel’s operations.

“Don’t book a stay at the Hilton Hawaii!” » reads the on-screen text of the video. “There’s a strike and it’s chaotic.”

What was supposed to be a relaxing hotel stay landed the woman in the middle of a workers’ protest.

“I’m at the Hilton Hawaiian,” the woman continued. “The workers are on strike. Very relaxing. »

As she spoke, the voices of workers could be heard collectively, chanting and shouting.

She recorded workers standing outside the hotel with signs, bellowing messages from a microphone.

“I can’t believe the hotel would allow this to last this long,” she said.

Hilton Hawaiian Village workers on strike

Today marks the 30th day that workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village have gone on strike. According to Hawaii Public Radio, 1,800 workers participated.

The union representing the workers says it last met with hotel representatives on September 12. The representatives have refused to meet again since the start of the strike.

The reasons for the strike include demands for wage increases, staffing issues and budget cuts related to COVID-19.

“We want to restore this property to the way it was before, but they won’t let us do it because they don’t have adequate staff,” one of the protesters could be heard saying. “We are also fighting for you.”

Viewers defend workers

In the comments section, many expressed support for the workers.

“The fact is that Hilton would rather give out refunds and such rather than give their overworked staff a raise,” one user wrote.

“I would ask for a refund and go home. Don’t make these workers wait for you. They have other worries, like getting their fair share,” another user said.

Others shared stories of the facility’s poor treatment of its employees.

“My husband worked faithfully at HHV for over 14 years and was fired for parking at the wrong level one day when they wanted him to come in earlier than his shift. They don’t care!! someone else wrote.

@handsomehankandmama Reallt disappointed, booked what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation to Hawaii and workers are on strike. Angered that the hotel didn’t disclose this. Hilton has been understaffed since Covid and treats staff poorly. #hilton #hiltonhawaiianvillage #hawaii #honolulu #hawaiistrike #hiltonstrike #fyp #hawaiian #aloha #waikiki ♬ original sound – Lisa & Hank
