Serbia and Uganda signed a bilateral agreement on air services during the first session of the Joint Commission for Trade and Cooperation between the two countries. The bilateral air services agreement allows for the introduction of non-stop flights between the two states, as well as a codeshare agreement between Uganda Airlines and Air Serbia. The Ugandan president had previously said that Uganda Airlines would introduce flights between Entebbe and Belgrade. The agreement was signed in Niš by Tumusiime Aggrey, Senior Air Transport Regulatory Officer at the Ugandan Ministry of Transport, and Mirjana Čizmarov, Director General of the Serbian Directorate of Civil Aviation. “The bilateral air services agreement will improve connectivity, trade and socio-cultural relations between Uganda and Serbia. Ugandan airspace is safe and secure for commercial aviation following International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) safety audits where we performed above the global average. On behalf of my Minister, I congratulate the Serbian and Ugandan representatives for meeting the aspirations of the Heads of State,” Mr. Aggrey said. Uganda previously signed an agreement with Constantine the Great Airport in Niš to handle cargo from the African country to the Balkans and Eastern Europe. The deal gives Ugandan exporters more than 750 square meters of storage and shipping space at the airport, including a cold store, for goods that will be distributed to Serbia and onward to Greece, Albania and Bulgaria. Since the two countries began expanding relations last summer, Serbian construction companies have won a series of contracts in the African country. The next session of the Serbia-Uganda Joint Trade Commission will be held in Kampala in February 2025.
