Xenoblade Chronicles X, Nintendo’s open-world RPG, is remastered for the Switch

Although we’re only a few months away from revealing the Switch’s successor, Nintendo still has some unfinished business with its current hardware. Nintendo announced that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editiona remaster of Monolith Soft’s 2015 action RPG, will launch on Switch on March 20, 2025. According to the press release, the remaster features improved visuals and added story elements.

Nintendo has released a new trailer to mark the occasion and its first few seconds look hilarious. There’s something deeply ironic about a trailer for a Switch port of a decade-old Wii U game that begins with the dialogue: “Well, here we are.” Not too bad, eh? It’s like a tongue-in-cheek joke acknowledging that there are a plethora of Wii U games that are in desperate need of saving (cough Wind alarm clock cough) And Xenoblade X Chronicles was one of the lucky ones to salvage a lifeboat from the sunken and inaccessible ship that makes up Nintendo’s back catalog.

In addition to porting older Wii U games, Nintendo continues to release new titles in the Switch’s twilight. Mario and Luigi: Brotherhood is due out next week. Nintendo also confirmed that Metroid Prime 4 will also receive a Switch version.
